That Hatchling-grafittied Nexus door leads to here, and what looks like the outer door of one of the buildings in the Black Mage Village. Another door has been added next to this one to actually get to the inside of the building.

No way out of this...

"It won't hurt you. Does it matter?"

"I don't understand."

"Why would it hurt you, but not hurt us?"

"Maybe it was looking for food?"

"Do we taste bad?"

"Why would it want to eat you?"

Arashi grumbles that he wants to find it and turn it into a toad, while the rest of the hatchlings continue to confuse themselves.

He answers each question as it's asked. "It just won't. No. I have no idea. It's not going to eat me. And don't do that." The last is to Arashi.

"Why not?" Arashi asks. "It can't hurt anyone if it's a toad."

Mistral sighs. "No toads, Arashi."

Arashi sulks. You'd think they didn't want him to do magic at all!

At least one of the poggles has fallen asleep.

"Unless it knows how to change back."

He's not going to be moving, so a sleeping hatchling is fine.

"Toad and Mute?" Arashi asks hopefully.

Someone needs to teach Arashi useful spells.

"Mute doesn't always work."

Arashi grumbles and sighs.

Unfortunately, Arashi's favorite spells tend to not be useful in everyday things. And likely to cause property damage.

He looks up, smiling a little.

And there aren't a lot of non-harmful spells on Gaia anyway. Poor Waltz.

Especially if you're a little Black Waltz and can't do white magic. Not that Arashi would take to it if he could do it. He'd likely find it boring. Fun spells have lots of flashing lights and noise and potential for chaos.

Or at the very least embarrasment for the other person.

The rest of the poggles snuggle. Arashi sulks. "There's never anything fun to do."

At least Toad's better than attacking people. That's a good sign. :D

"Here or in the Nexus?"

But now he's getting told not to use Toad either! What's a little Waltz to do!

A shrug from Arashi. "Both. The Nexus is better. Sometimes." If only because nobody seems to care if he knocks the stuffing out of some defenseless Nexus Couch with thunder spells. "There's just gardens here. And animals, and other stuff I'm not allowed to use spells on."

Well, Kuja's not expecting him to listen. Just hoping.

"I can't help you with that. Don't you like other things besides spells?"

The wierd thing is, the idea of not listening to Kuja hasn't occured to him yet.

"Flying. But I can't fly all the time." Someone's just not cut out to be a country poggle.

And yet he doesn't even listen to his 'parents'. :(

"No... but that can't be all you like." Even he likes more things than that. :o

Sometimes he does. When they catch him. Just not when they're not there.

Another shrug. "Some games are fun. And maybe some books, but only if they have big letters and I read them myself. Mr. 151 reads too slow and little letters are too hard to read."

"Gardens are boring. And I don't like the chickens. Or the sheep. They're just dumb animals. I like the cats that live near the Synthesis Shop ok, though."

The rest of the poggles have either dozed off... or are pretending to be.

"What books can you read?"

He nods, seeing why this would be a problem. No advice though, he has no idea what a Waltz would like to try.

"Not very many. Ones with bigger letters are harder to find. Why do they make the letters so small? It's stupid."

"To fit as much in the book as they can. They don't want to waste paper." And the letters never seemed small to him.

"But it wastes all the paper if you can't read the book."

"Some people can read the books like that."

There's a grumble from Arashi, who never takes it particularly well when other people can do something he can't. Especially when it's something he can't tell himself that he'll learn to do later.

"I still say the letters are too small."

He tries to switch the topic away from books for a while. "Gardening's boring. Everyone else likes it, but it takes things too long to grow. Months even."

"Maybe..." Almost smiling again~.

He nods. "It doesn't take that much time... all you need to do is water the plants occasionally, don't you?"

"You have to water them, and pull up the weeds, and chase away the rabbits and birds. And Mr. 33 and Mr. 111 won't let me cast Thunder on the stupid rabbits. They wouldn't keep coming back then."

"No, that wouldn't be a good idea." Killing off all the rabbits... poor Arashi!
